After waiting 5 years for construction to be complete (it officially began early 2018), the highly anticipated ride, TRON Lightcycle/Run, is set to officially open in the Tomorrowland area of Magic Kingdom on April 4th! However, Disney has announced that guests will also have an opportunity to ride the attraction early during a soft opening that will be taking place from March 20th to April 2nd.

In order to ride TRON during both the soft opening and once the ride is officially open, guests will need to either join a virtual queue in their account on the My Disney Experience app, or they can purchase an individual Lightning Lane entry. There will be no standby queue. Guests will have 2 opportunities to join the virtual queue: at 7am (you do not need to be in the park at that time), & again at 1pm (you must be inside Magic Kingdom to join this virtual queue). When you have either joined a virtual queue or purchased a Lightning Lane, you will be given a return time when you can scan in to experience the attraction. All guests must also have valid park admission, as well as a Magic Kingdom park reservation, before joining. Several guests, including cast members, DVC members, & Annual Passholders, have already had the opportunity to preview this exciting new ride.

The storyline of this attraction takes place after the movie, “TRON: Legacy”. Guests will enter a portal into a digital world known as the Grid to participate in a Lightcycle race. Riders will be on Team Blue and will be racing against programs known as Team Orange. In order to be victorious, your team must be the first to get through the 8 Energy Gates. TRON Lightcycle/Run will be one of the fastest Disney coasters in the world!

Concerned about losing your hat or cellphone while riding? Don’t be! The queue is complete with complimentary, double-sided digital lockers for you to store any loose articles before riding (bags, cameras, hats, Minnie ears, phones, wallets, glasses, etc.). Simply tap your MagicBand or park ticket to lock or unlock/open your locker. If a guest doesn’t have either of those, they will be given a card to use. All items must be placed in a locker, or small enough (like a wallet, glasses or cellphone) to fit in the small storage compartment on the ride vehicle.

This attraction will also take an onboard photo & video of riders which will automatically be linked to their My Disney Experience account by either wearing a MagicBand that is linked to the account, or by enabling Bluetooth for the My Disney Experience app on their cellphone before riding & also being logged into their account.
There will be fun & exciting TRON themed merchandise for purchase in the new Tomorrowland Launch Depot gift shop. But that’s not all! A new food kiosk is also coming to Tomorrowland called Energy Bytes! Here you will be able to purchase yummy “bytes”, such as chocolate cake donut holes, Joffrey’s cold brew, 2 flavors of Digital Dumplings – Buffalo chicken or beef & broccoli, the Strawberry IceOform, & Watermelon Refresher. Yum!
Are you excited to finally ride TRON Lightcycle/Run? Will you be going during the soft opening? Will you be trying any of the new food offerings at Energy Bytes? Personally, we’re very excited for this new area in Tomorrowland to be open & to have a new ride, shop & snacks to enjoy while at Magic Kingdom!
