“I’m Going To Disney World”! Where Did That Come From?

Considering that Walt Disney World is NOT doing the traditional Superbowl celebration parade this year (Covid restrictions on crowds gathering during parades), we thought it would be a good time to talk about the history of the famous “I’m going to Disney World” Superbowl commercial.  Did you know that a nine-day flight around the world inspired it? In 1986, Dick Rutan along with co-pilot Jeana Yeager piloted the first non-stop, non-refueled around-the-world flight.  A month after the historic flight, Disneyland had the grand opening of Star Tours hosted by Disney CEO Michael Eisner, Star Wars creator George Lucas, and other … Continue reading “I’m Going To Disney World”! Eating Returns at Disneyland’s Downtown Disney

Back in December, California’s Governor, Gavin Newsome, enacted a 3-week stay-at-home-order because of a spike in COVID-19 cases (which was causing hospital ICUs to reach capacity).  The order was also a ban on onsite dining which affected Downtown Disney.  If you bought any food, you had to take it off the property to eat it (a major pain in the butt for all visitors). 😞 Improvements in the state were not met and the original order was extended into January . . . until yesterday (Monday 1/25/21).    The ban was lifted and guests to Downtown Disney and Buena Vista … Continue reading Eating Returns at Disneyland’s Downtown Disney

Jungle Cruise Refurbishment Coming Soon

Disneyland & Walt Disney World will be changing the Jungle Cruise.  Floating around through the jungle and listening to your skipper crack jokes has always been fun, but many feel that something new is much needed for this opening day attraction. Disney Parks Blog says that they want this attraction to be able to “better reflect the value and diversity of the world around us.”  (Basically meaning that they want to change any of the negative depictions of native people). Besides getting rid of the negative aspects of the ride, Disney will be incorporating a whole new storyline that ties the … Continue reading Jungle Cruise Refurbishment Coming Soon

What Makes the Gran Fiesta Tour Special? (when it’s not so special)

When our family’s at Epcot, we probably ride the Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros at least twice during every vacation.  While this classic World Showcase boat ride in the Mexican Pavillian could be considered “lame” by many people, there is just something about this ride experience that makes it very special.   Maybe it’s the pyramid-shaped Mexico Pavilion building.  Maybe it’s the feeling of walking into a nighttime scene in an old Mexican village (the fountain, the shops, or the cast members).  Maybe it’s the smell of the food from the San Angel Inn Restaurante.  Maybe it’s the archway … Continue reading What Makes the Gran Fiesta Tour Special?
